.MDL to .OBJ while keeping original bones...

Post by IAmCaptainRedfield »

Any tools out there that can convert .MDL to .OBJ while keeping the original in-game bones(this includes facial bones!)???

OBJ does not support bone weights.

Hmm... I know there's a way around this, but this is more than likely where Blender or 3DS comes in...

Well I use Noesis to convert some MDL's to SMD's and they retain bones and bone weighting when I import it to Max.
You could try the DAE or FBX format also

...And these formats will work in XNALara if I try to convert them over to either .MESH, .ASCII, or .XPS format?

But more importantly, will they retain the facial bones?

EDIT- I've been browsing through both the TF2 and SFM folders on my PC, and every version that I come across of the classes(My ultimate goal here is to reextract and convert over the TF2 classes(both human and robot)WITH facial bones this time around)seem to lack facial bones. So either I'm not looking hard enough, or facial posing for these models is impossible outside of GMod and SFM...

Those models don't have facial bones, they use morphs.

Like what rexil posted Source .mdl do not use bones for heads/faces you have to do a custom face rig if you want them to have face bones.

In that case it's time to bust out Blender and see how this disaster is gonna unfold, lol...
