Ryu ga Gotoku/Yakuza series

Thread for all things Yakuza. :D

Looks like Yakuza Zero is channelling that 80's classic Sega and Shenmue into it especially with the featured playable old arcade games. Shame there's no Afterburner, which itself was originally meant to be in Shenmue too. Yakuza Zero could've gotten all the major classics. :(
From claw cranes to arcade games, the arcade center will return with various mini-games to have fun with. This time itÔÇÖll feature some Sega classics like Space Harrier, OutRun, Fantasy Zone, and Hang-On. As previously reported, the aforementioned games can be played on the PlayStation Vita via Remote Play.

It's very story heavy driven and practically the only major series of games that deals with the serious (And tongue-in-cheek) portrayal of the Japanese criminal underworld.

Gameplay is an old-school beat'em up with semi-open adventure exploring and minor RPG elements. Basically the series is a spiritual successor of what Shenmue did back on the Dreamcast.

Too many people keep comparing the Yakuza games to the GTA series (3 and onwards) which is the most easiest mistake one can make. :P

The brawling combat is pretty simple, but some of the interactivity with objects, walls and the brutality of it makes it interesting. And with Yakuza 4, it's Kiryu + 3 more other main characters each with different styles.

Dead Souls on the other hand is just a random spin-off game with 3rd person shooter elements. Though due to some of the characters in it and if you really care, it helps if you've played the previous games e.g. Yakuza 2.
