I wouldn't be surprised if he (at least once) served Nintendo employees during a company outing/picnic. Oftentimes these types of things seem gimmicky especially you know they're higher ups but I think it's a nice gesture plus gives the impression that they're one with you. A lot of top executives from where I work wouldn't even give you the nod if they saw you. :pi: *typical corporate trash*

Here is Genyo Takeda's memorial address at Iwata's funeral service, which thousands of people attended.
As we gather here today for a joint funeral with Nintendo Co., Ltd. and Mr. Iwata's family, I would like to share my heartfelt condolences. President Iwata, allow me to call you Iwata-san, just as I always used to.

Iwata-san, you left us far too soon. Having just chaired our shareholders' meeting the other day on June 26, the news of your sudden death has left all the employees overcome with a deep sorrow. The late Yamauchi-san passed the baton to you in naming you the president of Nintendo in 2002, and the two Senior Managing Directors of the company, Shigeru Miyamoto and I, have been assisting and working alongside you. Being rather short-tempered myself, the thing that I am most deeply struck by is that you were a true leader in every sense of the word, overflowing with compassion for people. You always maintained a two-way dialogue, even with the next generation of employees, or with much younger members of the development and marketing teams, or with employees outside of Japan whose different customs and cultures can make communication challenging ÔÇö sometimes even admitting your own mistakes to them. You demonstrated this through your belief that people could eventually come to understand one another, and your strong conviction that the best way for us to grow is through patient communication, even if it took several times, a dozen times or even seemingly endless discussion.

You succeeded in planting the seed in employees' hearts that, in order to solve an issue, there is a fundamental cycle whereby you make a hypothesis, execute the plan, see the result and then make adjustments, and by which you have caringly nurtured these seeds to sprout and mature into plants.

Until now, our successors and the younger generation would take a few first steps and then look back at you for guidance because they could not tell if they had chosen the right path. Today they cannot ask for your guidance anymore.

However, I am sure that they have already made the firm determination that they will continue on their own, making the hypothesis, executing the plan, seeing the results and reflecting on the results to improve and adjust by themselves.

In the face of your unbelievable passing it will surely take some time before we can emerge from this deep sorrow. Please know, however, that the seeds you have planted, and the plants that have sprouted will put forth small flowers as they bring smiles to the faces of people around the world, blossom into a grand flower bigger than even you, our leader, Iwata-san. Together with Miyamoto and others of our generation, we swear in our hearts that we will continue our efforts so that, someday, we can report and present to you the blossoming of these flowers. May you continuously watch over and guide us managers, our employees and your family.

On behalf of all of us, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and sincerest prayer. May you rest in peace, Iwata-san.

Former HAL Laboratory colleague and Mr Smash Bros. himself, Masahiro Sakurai had this to say from his Famitsu column.
He was a man of virtue. Where a normal person would get annoyed or angry, he would never show such emotions and would instead analyse, organise, and offer ideas. He was someone who could bow his head and apologise for things that werenÔÇÖt his fault. I often worried about his stress levels, but he always talked with a smile.

He had a brilliant mind. Even when people would talk at length or without focus he was able to quickly say, ÔÇ£so, what youÔÇÖre trying to say is...ÔÇØ and quickly summarise their point. He was able to see to the heart of people and things and was a master of simplifying them so that anyone could understand their point. He could immediately make a call on changes to improve. I have no doubt that many people were saved by this quality.

He was a man of effort. Even though he didnÔÇÖt start out in the managing field, he read numerous management books, he would ask for advice from the necessary people that he would take to heart, and managed to become the president of Nintendo. What he gained from his years as a programmer allowed him to take many long-term projects to successful fruition.

He was open and generous. Things like his Iwata Asks, and Nintendo Direct werenÔÇÖt things that necessarily required the president of Nintendo to stand at the front and do. There was always the risk of frivolous criticism. And yet, by being the spokesperson, I believe he showed the importance of properly conveying a message to his audience.

He was empathetic.
After he became the president of Nintendo, he would write emails to all employees to communicate and as hard as it was, took a stance to try to treat everyone as equals. He would often ask third parties to see how people were doing. As an individual, he had no self-righteous qualities.

Looks like Tatsumi Kimishima is the new CEO of Nintendo now.

Previous credits include working at the Sanwa Bank of Japan, The Pokemon Company and even a former CEO of Nintendo of America before Reggie took over.

Back to a "corporate CEO" now. :pi:

It is jarring especially after the type of person Iwata was, but at this point in time, Kimishima makes alot of sense. And given his background credientials, "money" for Nintendo needs to be a thing and he is very capable enough of knowing how run a company.

Apparently the position is only for a year as well, so we will see what will happen in the future. :pi:

Bit late, but this one was deserving for him.
