Hitoshi Sakimoto Appreciation Thread

Post by MisterHentai »

So all that FFXII talk with the Resbo got me thinking about this, since that game has quite the epic soundtrack, it got me thinking about other games that has Hitoshi Sakimoto/Basiscape composed music (Along with Masaharu Iwata).

He has his own style with a mixture of Orchestral and Synthesizer samples that surprisingly hasn't changed that much since the late 90's, yet I personally think it still sounds great. Alot of pieces may sound very similar from one game to another, but then that is the whole point of a certain composers style right?

Just a "couple" of examples. May all the embedding break your web browser!

Epic music indeed. :ohn:
Seeing as he is the one who composed the music from Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown, I suppose he also composed Grim Grimoire OST.
I didn't know he composed Valkyria Chronicles OST! (probably my favourite PS3 game. Why Sega? Why didn't you localize Valkyria Chronicles III?!! :runcry:).

I found he did a version of "Battle at the Big Bridge" from FFV in FFXII.

I don't remember listening to it when I played it. Maybe it was from a sidequest, I didn't finish them all.

Yep the Vanilliaware games pretty much exclusively has him and Basiscape as their main soundtrack composers.

Yeah "Desperate Fight" in the first Valkyria Chronicles has ALOT of FFXII in it.

And it's more of a case of why they relegated the VC series to the PSP. :(

Such a shame since the games are so underrated, but at least we knew that some of the people who once worked on the original Phantasy Star games and Skies of Arcadia were still there and had jobs.
