Ohhhh cannot wait!

Maybe it's about time I learn how to use Blender and try some high quality renders.

Hi everyone.
I'm new here and I'm trying to getting used to blender cycles
but I have to say that all the "nodes stuff" is driving me crazy :?

I'm currently working on a Ninja Gaiden render featuring the lovely Ayane
but I'm having some problems with her hair transparency.
No matter which settings I'm using, every time I try to render the the tips of her hair always turn out to be grey.
Here's a screenshot of the problem showing the nodes setting:

Any idea about the problem?
Thanks in advance for your help :D

The first thought that comes to mind is that the alpha channel is premultiplied. By default, Cycles uses direct linear, not premultiplied alpha. Look under the Render tab of the Properties view for the "Film" section. There should be a checkbox there called "Transparent".

I believe it defaults to being unchecked. I *think* that if you switch Transparent to on, Cycles will then use premultiplied alpha maps instead.

If that doesn't fix it, let me know.

There's also a situation some of have run into with 2.67 that causes the Alpha to not render properly. Which version do you have?

First of all, thanks everyone for your replies.

Unfortunately it doesn't work.
I tried doing as you suggested but when I start the render everything look the same (grey hair are still there :x )
At this point I'm almost sure it's a transparency/alpha problem but...how to fix it?

I'm using 2.67b.
Do you think I should try rendering the same model with an older release?

It couldn't hurt since the versions are mostly compatible unless you have anything specialized from the new version. Once they released 2.67 with the SSS people reported the Alpha not working correctly. It's worth a go at 2.66 to get you by until they fix that alpha problem.

I noticed that you used an extra "mix shader" node, you should remove it.

Try this: when you select your nodes in the surface tab, first select a mix shader, in the first label of the mix shader, use a transparent node. In the second label use a diffuse BSDF, after that diffuse node, use a image texture node and open the image that you want to apply in the specific mesh.

P.D: only use this procedure in parts where the textures has alpha channels, like hair, eyelashes, eyebrows. If you want to avoid transparency in other meshes use this:

First, in the surface tab, load a Diffuse BSDF node, and load an image texture node and open the image that you want to apply in that part. DONT use the MIX shder node in this procedure.

If my explanation it too boring, you can start using this:

Hope it helps.

You sir are a lifesaver!
I downloaded 2.66 and everything works like a charm :hug2:
Transaparency is displayed the way it was supposed to be, I'm glad I wasn't doing anything wrong,
it was just the new program version "fault" :D
Thnaks again for your patience, I'll make sure to upload my first render here when I'm done.

I know about the extra mix shader, I used it to add other textures and I forgot to remove it ;)

Thanks for the tips and the links, I'll check the tutorials you linked me for sure.
