Does anyone know why this might be happening (3DMax 2013)? I'm applying an Omni Light to my model, and it works in the viewer, but when I do a quick render, it doesn't show:

(On the left is the regular viewer with the omni light working, but on the render (right), the lighting is completely different...)

My guess is flipped faces/normals.

Try ticking the '2-sided' box in material editor, see if that did anything. If it's no good then:

Go to the modify tab after clicking the model, then apply an Edit Normals modifier. Select all (Ctrl+A), then click unify.

If that doesn't work, delete the modifier, and in Edit Mesh/Poly click on 'select by faces', then select all (Ctrl+A) then search for a button names 'Flip'. Hope that helped.

Thanks for the fast reply :) The 2-side trick works... But what exactly does that do to the object? It gives it weird lighting properties and I have to set up a few global lights to make it look right.

So about this problem...

Exporting as .mesh.ascii does the trick. :)

Sup peeps? Anyone know how to open a .VMT texture file so I can convert it to something usable like a tga? Even a VTF would be better than this crazy file type. I swear if I can't figure it out soon I'm going to get a nasty bout of explosive diarrhea...

.VMT is a material format as far as I know. The .VTF files are textures, and you can open them in both Max and Photoshop via plugins. ;)

Thanks for the reply Ventrue. I've already got that VTF converter and it works awesome on VTF files but not VMT. I'll try out that Photoshop plugin though in case it works :)

EDIT: Nope. Works a charm on the VTF files but no luck at all on VMTs. You're right that it's a texture files but I'll be damned if I can find a way to open it or turn it in to something usable...

I don't think you got what I meant. The .VMTs are not textures afaik. Could you please open one in NotePad and post what you see in there? :)

Hi,

Could someone post up a tutorial or a link to a tutorial on how to remove doubles in 3dsmax on a port from Gmod.
Help would be appreciated.
